Travellers that stay in our hotel in Formentera, are attracted mainly by the beaches and transparent waters, beaches located in a natural environment.

S’Alga Beach
(Island of Espalmador)

Less than 200 meters north of Formentera is the island of Espalmador which is about two km. square. On the western side of the southern part of the island is S’Alga Beach with 1000 meters of fine white sand surrounded by scrub vegetation and with a large bay of crystal clear sea. With only one house and one watch tower, the island is far from populated areas and this beach is the ideal spot for relaxation.

The best way to reach the beach is by boat, either with small motorboats that serve as watertaxis from Illetas Beach or with a boat that leaves from the port of La Savina. If the sea is completely calm, it is possible to swim from the tip of Illetas to Espalmador but this is considered dangerous due to strong currents. There are also organized excursions that leave from the port and arrive at S’Alga Beach. One of the attractions of this area is the possibility of having a mud-bath in a muddy part of the marsh near the beach which may have beneficial effects on the skin.

Ses Illetas Beach

This is possibly the most talked about beach which is 450 meters long and whose fine white sand and transparent water make it an idyllic spot. It is located in the nature reserve of “Ses Salines”, far from populated areas, and is surrounded by low sand dunes and vegetation. There are beach chairs and beach umbrellas and litter bins and the possibility of practicing watersports. In this area there are some famous restaurants such as “Juan y Andrea” and  “El Ministre”. This is one of the busiest beaches during the high season and there are authorized parking zones near the beach entrances.

Levante Beach

This is located in the northern part of the island, just on the opposite side of Ses Illetas Beach. On this triangle of land, with Ses Illetas on the western side and Levante on the eastern side, the two beaches actually converge at the point forming a fine white sand beach where you can easily swim on one side or the other. Levante Beach has the same fine white sand and crystal clear sea and usually a bit more breeze. This beach is also known as Tanga Beach in reference to the restaurant located there next to the parking area. There are beach chairs and beach umbrellas and litter bins and a beach bar. This beach is also very busy although tourists may have more space since this beach is wider than Ses Illetas.

Cala Saona Beach

This beach, which is 180 m. long and 140 m. wide, is one of the smallest but also unique as it is located in the only cove on the island with cliffs on each side and thick woods with sabina and pine trees. There are wonderful spots, from the beach or from the cliffs, to watch spectacular sunsets and take marvelous photos.

In back of the beach there is a big hotel in Formentera, Hotel Cala Saona, and on the beach there is a beach bar and a restaurant as well as beach chairs and beach umbrellas, all of which assure a wonderful day in the sun.

Mitjorn Beach

The longest beach, which is 4.300 m long and 40 m. wide (depending on the zone), is located in the southern part of the island, far from any urbanization. The beach is surrounded by sand dunes and woods and the sea is crystal clear. This beach is generally less crowded than the northern beaches except for certain areas where there are popular beach bars with sunset parties on certain days.

Along this beach there are various beach bars, restaurants, hotels and apartments. There are litter bins, vehicle access and parking areas. Facing the sea from the beach, there is Cap de Barbaria on the right and the southern cliffs of La Mola on the left. At the end of the beach, going towards La Mola, is Arenals Beach which is one of the prettiest areas with an independent entrance further along the main road.

Es Caló Beach
(Ses Platjetes)

This is actually made up of small beaches with clear turquoise water and fine sand surrounded by an abundance of rocks and much less crowded. The closest urban area is Es Caló and the beaches can be reached from the main road PM-820 by turning left.

Es Pujols Beach

This smaller beach is located in the heart of Es Pujols in a large bay with transparent water and is backed with a promenade that includes the terraces of various bars and restaurants. This beach has all the necessary services including a walkway and chair for the handicapped. Facing the sea from the beach, on the left are the rustic sheds that protect the boats of the local fishermen and on the right is the area of Punta Prima with its watchtower.

Walking northward along the beach on the wooden walkways that protect the sand dunes, there is Sa Roqueta Beach which is away from any urbanization and less crowded than Es Pujols Beach.

Caló des Mort

This small beach is located between boulders and rocks at the end of a track reached from the turn-off to the Hotel RIU.This beach, which is charming and delightful and well worth a visit even though it is often covered with dry posidonia algae, usually has only a few sunbathers.
